Consider the following scenario The time has come for you to choose a college. However, there are many things to consider: location, how good the degree is, cost & tuition, and the amount family & friends nearby. Some things may have to be traded off for others. You have two options, which seem to be relatively opposite. What option do you think is a better deal? As a junior in high school, now is the time I am starting to look at colleges, so I'd really appreciate feedback from you guys!
Really, it's up to you personally. A poll won't help much. What I did was started with community college (20-40 minute drive from home, very cheap). That way I could get used to a college workload and setting while still living in the comfort of my own home. After two years of that (to get most of my general ed out of the way), I transferred to an out of state university. Plus, if you go to community college, you don't have to take the SAT :^)
I think the real question is why would you want a degree for; if it's just to have it or to honor your parents, you are in trouble. In your position, If my plans were to become the best in my field and I could comfortably afford it I would choose option B. Now speaking from personal experience I went to a low cost/close to home/ good program college and after getting my marketing degree I picked up animation again and that's what I'm doing for work now by my own. In highschool I never cared for any a career in particular, in the career aptitude test I got biology and I was like "sure whatever I liked looking at dead animals, plants and gross stuff through a microscope at the school's lab"; my point is not many schools prepare you to what you're going to do after highschool is over OR if they showed what type of projects you could accomplish by studying certain degrees; graphic design is fucking awesome and I didn't know it until like a year ago; I would be a much better animator by now if I had chosen graphic design. If you are relying on the limiting belief that if you go to college, get a degree and once you get a safe job in your field you're good to go, you are also in trouble, I sure was.
