Notes: Based on the Vatican in Smash Mushroom Collab 3, I’ve made this abandoned remains of the church for travelers who need shelter from a long day of mountain hiking. I tried to reinvigorate my rusty lighting senses with the various holes in the roof and give some visual appeal to the dark and decrepit building, along with a small view out the broken stained glass walls. The tight deadline also shows I need to create my maps and any other projects I want to finish alot more quickly as I also was working on the exterior version of the map, but was held up on small details. Thanks so much to Pochi for giving me an opportunity to motivate me quickly to make this map in an MBR!

I'm no map maker, so I'll keep this brief. I think both people successfully followed the theme. However, Pochi's map gives off warm, homey, comfortable vibes, which is fantastic and really goes the extra mile in fitting the theme. Making it a gif was a nice touch, too.

Good job Pochi, and hopefully you get the assassin medal :D

My losing salt wasn't enough to push through for a win lel.

But thank you so much to Pochi for returning for a Map MBR with me! As Kim said, I really like the warm atmosphere your map provides, along with the characters to demonstrate why it is shelter from the cold, namely the campfire.

As said on Discord, the only issues I had were the scaling of the logs on the bottom left of the map, making it look blurry and sticks out like a sore thumb. Another thing is some of the map objects like the sign and the same logs' snow covering them have a different color than the snow throughout the map, which I recommend using Color Balance to fix.

The last thing I can say is that the structures in the horizon needs to be a little more consistent with the "foggy" look like the trees, meaning a little less contrast and more brightness to make it a bit grey as the sun's lighting seems to fill the forest.

Once again, very nice job on the map! :)

Also, for anyone else that voted, please let us know why you voted for the map, we both want to improve, after all!

In all seriousness... I’m still practicing to attain the intricacy of your map objects (which imo is highly underrated). Thank you for letting me complete my August trifecta with such a short notice (:

I promise I’ll stick around longer this time around!

You both did amazing!! I'm honestly so glad that map MBRs are a thing :sob:
I'm not too experienced with map making, but here goes nothing!

Pochi: I absolutely loved the warm atmosphere your map gave off. I'm a huge sucker for sunsets. Like what Kim and Dally said, the addition of the gif was a nice touch, which summed up the theme very well. However what threw me off were the snow on the logs and fence. The color isn't consistent with the rest of the map which was a little offputting. One last thing is with the horizon. It is very nitpicky of me, but this part wasn't blended well and you can notice the cut-off.

Dally: Can I just say I love what you did with the map? I love how well you integrated the items. You took map pieces from different towns (eg. Windows from Lachlen and Zero, the chairs from the church in Amoria) and made them fit together nicely. I can tell each item were modified in some sort (eg. broken stained glass) to make it fit with the abandoned remains of a church. If it wasn't for the fact that I knew where the items came from, I would have thought they were from the same town. The one thing that was offputting was the overall image quality of the map.

It took some of the appeals away as it was a little bit distracting. ):
I also feel like some of the lighting is a little inconsistent, but I'm not exactly too sure how to fix it.

In my opinion, the snow is a little too bright. It is a bit weird how the bottom of the pillar is rather dark, but the snow is super white. I would either make the snow portion a bit darker or make the shadow part of the pillar less dark.

In all, both did amazing. My vote goes to Pochi because the overall map layout and atmosphere it gave off was great. I would love to see you start integrating other map pieces from different towns more as you mainly used the ones from Monad in this. I can tell you tried doing that with the log and signpost, but it stood out. I could tell they were from different places because the lighting on the snow did not match the rest.

Well...god damn it. It seems Imgur turned my PNG into a JPG. Lemme fix that lol. And thanks so much for the CnC! I agree with the snow's lighting being inconsistent with the other map objects.

EDIT: K, fixed the map to be a PNG instead of JPG~

Pochi's map instantly caught my attention with a warm sunset on a snowy field.
The campfire bit just made this map a whole bunch better. Really puts a smile on your face.
However I do feel like the pile of logs and the signpost stuck out like a sore thumb because of the difference in the lack of that same warm glow in the colors.

Dally's map while at first glance didn't have that much going on, after closer inspection, the detail of the surroundings behind the stained glass windows are amazing. Really sells the idea of a temple in the middle of a village scene.
I'm not too sold on the idea of the crates and supplies though, I feel like it detracts from the holy place to more of a forgotten shed. The inconsistency with the snowfall is a problem as well as some objects are caked with snow while others are devoid of them.
May I suggest to add to this scene, a single stream of "holy light" that spotlights the altar.

Despite my criticisms, I did enjoy these two maps immensely. Good job, both of you!

I woke up to witness a Map MBR.

    A MAP MBR.
You don't know how excited I was this morning.

Here are the CnCs for both of you!

First of all, I love the atmosphere you set in this particular map theme! I am a big fan of sunsets myself and I am impressed with your use of the Monad map objects! The tiny campsite of the left does give out a nice, homey feel from the cold that is the background you presented. I also love the abandoned town in the distance on the right side. Although there aren't much maps set to .gif, I'm surprised that it fits quite well.

The sun is on the horizon, though the shadows on the tent and tree indicate otherwise. Unless it is a part of the map object itself, it probably needs to be modified.

Just like what Connor said in her CnC earlier, the snow on the log and sign is a bit off, and a tad bit inconsistent to the colors in this map.

On the top left side, there seems to be a different light source other than the sun, and I feel that the only light source should be the sun. Although the lighting is a part of the map objects themselves, it would look better if the sun is the only light source to be focused on.

Other than that, it's looking astounding! I hope to see more maps from you.

    That sounded really ironic, woops

I kid. I just want to say I love the abandoned yet cozy feel in the church map! With all of the supplies in this church, it indicates the presence of previous adventurers taking residence in this map. The cracked windows and the light shining through the upper windows further prove that this map gives off a nice worn down atmosphere while maintaining its winter-y feel. I'm digging it.

    [IMG] [IMG]
I know you weren't able to find the right snow clumps for this particular map, but I just want to reiterate that the snow on these pillars look uneven and a tad bit messy. Maybe blur it next time, or fix it up a tad bit?

I feel this particular pillar on the map is a bit contrasted as compared to the other pillars on this map. Perhaps you could lessen the contrast a bit?

The light is looking a bit off on this pillar. Maybe it's just me, but there's an unnecessary shadow showing on the upper part of the pillar. I think lightening it like the other pillars would look better.

Despite the flaws, overall, it looks amazing! I adore every concept you plan in your maps, Dally.

You know, I want to vote for both. The two maps have been made with a lot of effort and each concept was carefully thought out, and it became hard for me to choose which. The two maps followed the theme well, and I adore the fact that Map MBR is still a thing. I would love to see more Map MBRs like these!
I'd do so, but I'm still seeking a challenger. sad

With all this said, my final vote goes to Pochi. Congratulations!

Vote goes to Pochi, while I liked both, I feel as if Pochi's gives off more of a real sense and feeling, and the composition along with the sun rising (or setting?) feels really beautiful and goes along with the nice long wide landscape. It feels as if something I'd have for a wallpaper.

I really enjoyed Dally's too, but I think the thing that threw it off for me was that the chapel didn't feel as if I would find that somewhere in the middle of a cold snowstorm or something. The other one just felt more with the theme, especially with the little characters on the side too.

I'm no map pro though, so I'm not sure if this will be helpful, good job to both tho!

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a map MBR. Then again, when was the last time anyone saw me this month LOL D:

I love the composition and warm, luminous color scheme in yours Pochi. It kind of reminds me of that indie survival game called The Long Dark, which built a premise of pure weather and hunting survival within rather charming scenery.

However, I think I'm gonna vote for Dally's. There's something about the use of abandoned architecture and glass ceiling lighting that makes it feel...lonely :( and potentially more relevant when considering the theme of this MBR. Idk, I feel like sheltering from the cold invokes a tone of sadness and isolation and Dally's really captures that isolation.

I'm probably in the minority on this but wth I'm voting for Dally. Both of you have made stunning work as expected tho!
