Theme: Skill bash Due: 12/26 glowingscramble: the last part was rushed, but a- Abdi: https://streamable.com/63bfek
Ho ho ho, getting an MBR for Christmas? I couldn't ask for anything better. Glowingscramble - good effort for a first MBR. I honestly thought the animation ended at 12 seconds; the rest of the animation after the start seemed very out of place and disjointed. I had trouble comprehending what was happening, so I would suggest working on your transitions from scene to scene. Abdi - Good to see you've improved slightly since last MBR. While Glowingscramble did have music and sound effects, your animation is in my opinion more polished and more satisfying to watch. I would suggest scaling the map up so that it matches the game's proportions more - the shrunken map has less quality, and looks a bit off compared to the norm. Gonna vote Abdi on this one. Good job both of you, keep practicing and improving!
Glowingscramble - After those 10 seconds, I can see you tried to go for a comedic skit somewhat. But a mistake most newbies make (if not all of them) is that they not only rush the animation, but even jokes themselves, often causing it to end up as weird nonsense. I speak from experience, please don't ever make a stupid third-wall breaking joke in middle of a serious fight, I did it and I regret it. But overall I can see your enthusiasm as to how long this animation is considering you had such a short amount of time to work with. Abdi - Your animation definitely feels solid, it feels like there are actual physics going on (Although you have yet to master them) and you have an interesting weapon choice. However, considering the MBR was supposed to be 10 seconds minimum, and that you said you would 'add something else to make it 10 seconds' yet you didnt, my vote would have to go to scramble. All in all you're both growing animators. Even if people might dish harsh criticism at times I hope you both stay around, the community needs active people like you.
2 days and only 2 votes, crazy. Anyway, I guess I'll be a tiebreaker. Scramble: Yeah I don't get what was going on at all post 13 seconds. To be honest, you could have taken that part out, and it would be ok. Actually, the whole part at 0:13-0:20 was something I'd expect to see at the beginning of the animation. Afterward, with the whole water sequence, I don't really understand how the transition led from flowers to a water tunnel. I could nitpick about general movements and all, but I think my biggest gripe is the over composition/sequence of events. Usually, A, then B, then C happens. In this case, it kind of looks like B, then A, and some random letter like F happens. Try to think more about how the audience can easier understand how one part of the animation goes into another. Aside from that, nice job animating for about 30 seconds. Just keep in mind quality =/= quantity. Abdi: Shorter, but I feel it has a better sense of general movement, like sliding, swinging the ball around, and the overall animation makes more sense to me. The map does need to be resized to match the size of the character. Sounds would have been cool too, if possible. The problem is how it really doesn't make the 10-second mark, but I do think the overall quality is way better. So, honestly, even though Abdi didn't make the 10-second mark, I'll still vote for Abdi. It felt less random to me as a whole with less filler, and I felt had a better sense of movement with attacks and sliding. Regardless, good job you two!
