TBH, that thought is very oldschool, there's pretty much no difference with animating with or without customs, it's essentially just another pose in my mentality. IMO as well, using just the default poses poses such a limited animating selection, you feel ?

I get what he means. There is a certain obtainable gain when utilizing sprites directly from the game. It make's you more resourceful in some ways. Though I find I suck at using customs.

what lynus said. also i don't think there's any benefit to shoehorning default poses into your ideas (if unorthodox, it usually leads to strange animation), or killing off ideas because you don't have the necessary sprites. no real gain there.

as a reply someone might say "rigging exists" but then it's no longer a default pose, is it? another thing to consider is what if there's just no useful sprites - say u need a fighting moveset, and the sprite has none. do u just give up on using it so easily because there's no pre-made stuff?

IMO, the default poses have been here for so long that probably every moveset that can be sequenced has probably been made, whether or not it is good or not. It just depends on the action you're doing. Derek's pole dancing was interesting, but for fighting and stuff.. very limited. Also, if kiddies had customs, that means they're learning to sprite ! Which is nice. Maple only gives you like 10 something ACTUAL attack sequences to work with, a majority having 2/3/4 poses. Yeah,...

I think the original mindset was that custom poses were usually harder to animate well than the normal walk/alert/swing/stab sequences from the game. I mean, really, it doesn't matter if you're learning but don't ever get held up spriting a million poses if all you need is a couple. That's why I make them as I go (placeholders are nice too).

take it from someone who tried, like its possible and such, but a newbie isn't all that skilled enough to so do such

soo might as well let him make more poses so animation could be easier, right?

@lynus that last message made my day c8
