    the bitmap collision detection stuff isn't so crazy useful (for animation), but this new vcam allows for way cooler (and faster) effects.

    What is the difference between this vcam and normal vcam?

    @windy: yeah
    @hunter: no real differences in terms of how you use it. but it works differently in that you never really show anything on the stage normally (in here it's just so you can understand it). you just draw everything to a bitmap and show *that* bitmap instead

    ^and on the bitmap you can apply filters and other things to the entire animation I think without lag

    So this vcam just basically shows the bitmap outline? I'm not sure if I get what you're saying.

    basically, think of a tv. the camera records an image, we send that image to the tv, and we're done.

    @Hunter Think of how when you create a GIF from a FW PNG, it flattens all the layers. That’s what this is doing essentially.

    ^ Wtf, I'm getting two different answers. Is it the effects itself on the images you're talking about?

    It’s the same concept, just two different analogies. It basically flattens everything on the stage into a bitmap and displays that in the SWF, rather than all the layers separately. Same output, different stuff going on in the background.

    the effects (basically just the scanlines lol) are applied on the tv image, yeah. this makes them much faster than applying them on large movieclips

    it's kind of confusing, i know. took me a while to get it working too :P
    i'll explain a little better on my flash thread later.

    Oh, I get it now. Took me while to get what y'all were saying. This is a good addition for animations if you think about it.

    Yeah, in essence you no longer have to worry about effects that lag the Flash player, because you aren’t actually displaying the effect, you’re displaying a picture of it.

    @hunter: i don't think most would use this. i can make it work because i know a bit of AS, but if you don't know anything at all, it's downright impossible to manage. like most other cool flash things lol

    @aidan: once i figure out a better way to render separated elements, yeah. possibly even more things - i had some ideas for a fake motion blur kinda deal too
