MBR: Alex303 vs PsyMatterTH

    I'll be honest. Alex gets my vote for this one.

    Alex's story had a short plot, and followed the prompt given, which was to retrieve the item. That item being a chaos emerald.

    Psy. Your part had action, it was interesting to see the sprites change to different versions, but overall it didn't have them retrieve...anything. It was just a fight over nothing.

    [Some things to note]
    Alex: you have shadow moving really fast in your beginning, I'm not sure if that was intentional but I believe you can slow it down to a good pace instead of fast. The touch of effects was nice and worked well so no problems there, there was also enough time to read the text, though I recommend adding some strokes on the text so that people can see it better, most likely in another software like sony vegas when it comes to text and music.

    Psy: the one thing that threw me off was the lack of effects say for the one's used in the beginning, middle. and end of your animation. The hits and sounds were there but the lack of effects doesn't help show the impact of it. You could have also used a dust effect or something to show that Shadow hit the rock....or whatever it was that he hit I couldn't really tell. I noticed you went for a DBFZ style and it almost worked out.

    Overall, both of you did well in your own ways. Can't wait to see what else you guys make

    Alex is who I'm finna pick, it was an interesting plot to start a fight over a chaos emerald while Psy didn't focus on plot, just random fighting.

    I'm not the best animator in the world, I don't know a lot of vocabulary about animation and severals of you will certainly not agree with what I'll say, but I would like to create my own cnc anyways (what I will say is purely subjective) :

    I'm starting with Alex303 :

    Positive points :
    - First of all, you respected the theme of the fight, we understand why Blaze and Shadow are fighting each other.
    - The dialogue was correctly animated, characters are moving to express their feelings, I mean it's not just 2 characters who are just standing with an idle pose and talking.
    - The fight and combos are very smooth and pretty dynamic.
    - The environment was well used, you made us feel that the fight is in a tower because characters was jumping on walls at severals times.
    - I like the "conception" of impacts, zoom in when they hit and zoom out when they go away.
    - The post prod was pretty good, I like the blur to give a fast effect.
    Negative points :
    - The text was maybe a bit too simple, insipid, with only one color. It makes the scene just a little bit plat.
    - The kick at 0:16 was a bit "cut", the camera soudainly zoom in the impact, maybe you should made like you did before for the others impacts : zoom in but not too much, in adding some speedlines too.
    - At 0:20 when shadow
    gets propelled in the roof, I think there is a little false agreement with the rotation, when Blaze kicked him he should turn clockwise.
    - In the sequence at 0:22 the tower seems really high whereas at 0:13 we can se his real height.

    Now PsyMatterTH :

    Positive points :
    - The fight was pretty smooth and some combos was quite well done.
    - I quite liked the sequence at 0:15 even if there are some things to fix.

    Negative points :
    - The very first negative point that I noticed is the fact that you forgot the main reason of the battle, we can't really understand why these characters are fighting each other. (Did someone stole an emerald or something like that and who ? We can assume that it seems to be Blaze because it's Shadow who comes to her but we're not sure about that)
    - There was some false agreement and some stuff useless : at 0:11 shadow should turn clockwise and especially at the beginning, Blaze has his hand on fire and when Shadow was come, the fire soudainly disappear.
    - There was severals
    lack of hitlag, during the first kick of Shadow, especially at 0:10 there is not a single hitlag whereas Shadow got propelled on the ground just after this kick, oh and when he fell on the ground.
    - At 0:22, the sequence was plat, you really could make it more dynamic, the fall was a little too dry.
    - The fight wasn't really finished (we can assume Shadow won but you see what i'm mean)

    Each of you made a great part, but my vote is for Alex303 because his part was more dynamic and understable. Psy, you did a great job but you need to focus on what are you doing and why, to not show some false agreement and keep in mind the reasons of a fight, not fighting for the pleasure especially if there is a cause for the fight.
    But I repeat, it's only
    my opinion.

    If the theme is story you need to add plot, and a purpose. In Alex's case it's a chaos emerald, which is over-used a lot but in the same format...Which is also something that we Sonic animators need to change because it's getting boring just having a character that so happenly needs a chaos emerald for no reason.

    Example: Blaze: "Shadow, I need that chaos emerald now to get back home...My people need me, and it's time I leave this place." - (That's giving Blaze a purpose to get that chaos emerald back)

    For PsyMatterTH - You did not add a story, nor followed the sub-theme. You lost this bud, please make sure you follow the guidelines and communicate better with your opponent next time.

    Comments on the fight:

    Alex303 - Great stuff on the speed man, that's a key component when animating sonic characters, and the fire dash lines on Blaze were a nice touch. Add a text box next time to make your text look more visually appealing.

    PsyMatterTH - Decent animation, and to be honest this could've been a great addition to the Spriterz collab (Dragon ball fighterz collab) - The sprite switch was also a nice touch, I dig that :)

    Good luck on your future projects, and I hope the rest of the comments help you improve and learn!

    While I really enjoyed both animations, My vote goes to Alex 303. He followed the theme of the MBR more than PsyMatter did (even tho it was a basic plot). I also was a bit confused by the action in Psy's anim (I may be wrong here but I think some attacks didn't have the proper build up and hit effects are missing).
