Miles Animation: Mbr Profile: http://maplemation.com/threads/miles.28282/ Notes: Tried for more fighting in my MBRs. KingIke's Animation: Mbr Profile: http://maplemation.com/threads/mbr-profile-da-turtle-man.33147/ Notes: Welp. Here's my part.
sorry multiple sets of 5280 ft. but my vote will be going to monarch overpowered character in SSBB seven 10s and 5 ones. as much as i like your animations, they very often have a similar feel to them.. and the more you make animations, the more they begin to lose their effect (that isn't to say that they're bad or anything) ike seems like he brought his A game knowing that you're a good animator and despite his animation having hiccups in it, it's unique combat (the use of ike's shell still gets to me. it's something i've never seen before with another character..) and better story earns him my vote. good to see so many complete MBRs lately though. You guys are bringing MBRs back to form with things like this. can't wait to finish my new demo so that i can start challenging all of ya'll again, because ya'll are all getting too good for me and i'm beginning to feel like a newbie again.. good luck to you both!
I voted for Ike because although both were great (understatement) Ike's had a proper storyline instead of a simple "Let's Fight" and the final kill out classed Miles' with its impact Hope these were good enough reasons cause this is the first one I've voted on.
Right off the bat, I'll say that I don't really fancy either of these animations. Spoiler: Miles: To reiterate what I explained on Discord, I've noticed that there's just a lot of super common mistakes I see in regular average/below average animations in your animation. From awkward, inconsistent physics to boring sounds and dull effect usage, there just isn't a whole lot I can commend you on in this animation. You would think with all of the resources out in 2017 that you'd at least try to use something other than shit from Tyler's effect pack (and even then you still didn't capitalize on all of the options you have.) It's like you actually tried to opt for the most generic and bland effects possible. Do yourself a favor and actually hunt for resources instead of contending with the same shitty effects over and over again like it's 2010. It's not that hard. Onto the physics... Spoiler: I have no idea why you thought this jump made sense. Spoiler: You already know how bad this looks. I'm not even sure how to explain what you did wrong. You made him spin at 1000 RPM and made the easing so damn drastic that it's almost comedic. If the GIF that was in my signature that explained arc physics was still there, it would do a better job of explaining how you should actually approach it. Focus on using nested tweens and making your physics as consistent as possible instead of randomly ramping the easing up whenever you execute something. I've also explained this on Discord, but you should also focus on making the weapon movement fluent and consistent instead of making it really fast and having the aforementioned issues with easing. The part at the end of your animation with the polearm is a good example of how you should approach weapon movement. Your sound design is passable. I did mention that it was boring, but it's not what I'd call bad. It's definitely better than what was implemented in Ike's animation. The only things I'll comment on is that you used the "ULTRA4.wav" sound effect for when Ike's character was impaled at the end and how you used that shitty Sonic brake sound effect. Please don't do any of that again. Spoiler: KingIke75: While I did find your animation more entertaining, it still suffers from a lot of the same shit I explained about Miles' animation. The only main differences I notice is that your sound design is actually worse (You used a fucking spindash sound effect for a Turtle Shell), and that your effect usage and choice is only slightly better, on top of having more variety overall. Speaking of variety, you were way more creative with your shots and angles in the animation. Everything wasn't confined to a linear 2D space typical of what I see in most animations, unlike in Miles' part. That being said, while I appreciate the effort you put into it, the more creative you got with the shots, the more shoddy the actual design looked, like here for example. The fighting was also better, as in I have way less things to nitpick and that I was entertained by it more than in Miles' animation. What actually pissed me off is that generic anti-climactic ending where the characters and background turn into flat colors. I was almost positive people were going to stop doing that after Nero fucked off, but I guess that trend still persists to this day. Don't do that again, please. This was actually pretty close to me, but my vote goes to Ike. I enjoyed it just a little more than Miles' animation, and aside from that terrible ending, I just wasn't as peeved by it. I hope you two improve in the future. Cheers to yet another MBR.
Miles: Fantastic rigging, as always. It really helped execute some interesting actions and moves. The speed of it during the fight really added onto its pizzazz. I especially liked 0:35-0:41; not only that, but there were a number of details in your rigged movements during that choreography that I had to slow the video down on YT in order to see. You don't HAVE to add details like that in such a short time frame, but it's little things like that which make it more appealing to me. The choreography wasn't perfect, persay. During this spin kick right here, the simple diagonal tween whilst Ike was being practically scraped along the ground just doesn't look right to me Spoiler: RIP Joey snaked this one before I could finish this post, but oh well. And tbh fam... Spoiler I know you have some blood effects in your Flash files somewhere. If I were you, I'd take a bitmap from one of those effects, and mask that on there, or even draw a bit of it. That'd look much better honestly. As for your storyline: While it's totally normal to not have one, it looked like not much effort was put into it during the beginning and end mainly. I can let it slide though, since this animation was more combat-based to begin with. And aside from the mentioned issues, it did its job. Nice, man. Ike: To begin, not sure how I feel about the first location being a room full of gradients rather than an actual location, or at least a pre-made map. Just doesn't make much sense to me, but that's my own taste. Other than that, you had a pretty decent reasoning behind your fight. And your ideas and flow held up pretty well from your previous animations. I like that little shell-combat you implement into your stuff, and it didn't disappoint here either. One gaping problem I saw was how this spear jump from on the ground into your hand in a matter of 1 or 2 frames. Spoiler: Had to slow this down to 0.25 speed on YT to capture this And how DID it even do that...? If your character has some kind of magnetic ability, then disregard what I said. But that aside, you put up a pretty great fight. Slowly but surely, you're getting there (y) It wasn't easy to choose, but my vote goes to Ike for this one. Honestly, it makes me glad that MBRs are beginning to gain more relevancy lately, and ones that have substantial effort from each side, no less. Great match, guys.
Congrats on the MBR. Judging by Ike's I sense a faction in the making! Anyways Voted for Ike. I enjoyed the camera angels, movements and flow better.
Pretty much everything needing to be said has been said in posts before me. Vote goes to KingIke. For story and flow.
Miles, you made some nice stuff, but it felt very bland to watch. I can't put an exact name on it, but the closest think i can call it is your "style". It's good, and it pays attention to what's necessary, but it doesn't have much of a personal flair or kick to it. At its core, your animation didn't have much energy behind it. And because of that, everything, including the joke you made, just fell flat. And Ike, although your animation isn't as poloshed as Miles, it had that energy in it. Don't forget about it as you get better. Also, work on making sure everything is executed properly. Because if i hadn't read Drew's post beforehand, I would have had no clue on how that spear got into your hand. All in all, my vote goes to Ike.
...? Was Miles paid for making Ike win? Miles, your whole fight.... was dull. It had no taste. You always shown to us all you could do really entertaining animations, with usage of your powers. Not only swordplay. The whole "pace" was too slow. You should spice up the maps because it feels like every mbr is happening 3 secs after another. Speaking of the map. It seems like you don't know what it wanted to be. Is it a deep forest or a park. If it's supposed to be a deep forest, then u should've darken 90% of the map. None of the parts compliment each other. Not knowing why, it bothers me alot in your animation. GOD THE STEP SFX ON THE END. Ike : You were at the edge of fucking up ur pace SO MANY TIMES, (Mostly cuz of rigs). What possibly made me vote on you. Is the fact that you matched the flow with the song, tell naeme plz. Even though you didn't go that much for kicks n punches and tried to vary it a bit. It still overwhelmed me and i started losing the joy of watching it after a few times. I also should mention that you should explain your powers more. Just like Drew mentioned, yet there were more parts of them. The rest were mentioned. 2nd mbr tis year', will we get a third? Thanks for Ike 'n Miles for doing another MBR ! -voting Ike
my man, miles. what was that physics 0:18. though it doesn't feel complete. anyways, voting for ike since his anim is much more enjoyable .
well, miles, adding one thing to what most said Spoiler: this shouldn't the shell be a bit bigger, cuz its the same size of an actual turtle lol Spoiler: stats i do give you a 2/10 creativity 7/10 flow 5/10 quality as for ike i don't have anything new to say other then that most of the time miles weapon is magically hovering beside his hand Spoiler: stats i do give you 5/10 creativity 5/10 flow 3/10 quality
Miles- Your animation was kinda boring it was just a lets fight and thats it. Ike- I like yours cause the fighting time for each character is greatly balanced and the story line is noice. so my vote is going to Ike.
