Resolution and Character sizes

I'm currently experimenting using After Effects to make some videos. I wanted to take a different approach and make the characters quite animated by moving their leg, head, etc.

However, I'm not understanding how should I go about the resolution.
Dumb question but people do 1920x1080 right?
If that's the case, cool. However, I want to make my character BIG.
Maplestory.design does a great job with zooming in and having all the pixels crisp

However, when I zoom in to my character in AE, it's all blurry and pixelated. What do you guys do to overcome this?

Say for example, you have a layer, like this:

You'll notice this box here with a diagonal line:

Click it, and it'll turn on the pixels, and the box'll look like this:
User image

That should make it more crisp.
