I'm doing a demo for Crypto, and I'm having difficulties with trying to animate the gif image. I got the sprites I need, but what do I do?

Note: I'm using GIMP to animate.

Well there you go! Shulkle got gave you a link to DemonRawr's tutorial. I hope that will help you out
I dunno what to say here other than, I have no time to animate anything most of the time.

It turns out I didn't merge the sprites with the background. I also got the demo finished.

Not bad, not bad at all for a new guy animating in GIMP. I've definitely seen worse. Though, there are a number of things I think I should say that should help out.
"A crapton of images and text"

Wayyyy to few in-betweens of the walk. I see you sort of skipped/skimmed that part about how this looks

Look carefully at the layers. There are about 4 copies of the single pose, each moving about 4 pixels to the right. Each movement is also based on the head, so that'd probably help smooth out that walk. This should probably help smooth out the walk, which should look like: User image

Now the dash...

Sliding. After doing some dash like this, a character should keep moving to the left/right, progressively getting smaller.

Here, notice how when he dashes, he slows down, but keep moving. There aren't even any blurs involved, and it looks pretty smooth. Find some pattern of the sliding so it'd greatly smoothen your movements despite the lack of blurs, effects, and whatnot.

You've gotta align the feet. I understand that with the way you're animating with GIMP, transitions can be utter hell to deal with, but with the layering, you can click the eye tool to look and see if you think that each pose looks like it transitions. Keep an eye on the feet when doing attacks, and it'll look cleaner. Not to mention, as stated above, sliding is your best friend.

Skim around spriters resource or get about 15 posts of Maplemation to get some effects better than, well, what you put. It's cool that you wanted to take the initiative of drawing your effects, but with those sitting next to those Maple sprites, it's a bit hard to look at.

So, yeah, those are my thoughts about it. Like I said, this wasn't bad for someone just trying to understand GIMP. It takes a lot of patience to stick with the program, and I applaud you for that. Good luck in your future animations, and I hope my critique helps!
