They both look great, the older one's colors are nicer and more spread out in my opinion. I'd add the lightest color from the old one, and place it as the color on the new one's shine to see how it goes.

Usually, people (used to?) would minimalize the amount of the solid black inner outlines.

It may help but I think black suits this, I like this a lot.

(I wouldn't want to give unsolicited CnC, sorry if it's not posted for feedback. ._. )
