Hi all,

I'm completely new to animation and I'd like to ask for your advice.

I'm working on a game where I would use the following sprites:

I will need to create the following animations:

1. yellow dotted block turns into orange dotted block
2. orange dotted block turns into red dotted block
3. red dotted block turns into completely red block
4. red dotted block disappears or explodes or something
5. completely red block disappears or explodes or something

I already created some animations for them but they are not too good and I would like to create something better.

If you have experience in animation please help me with a few ideas how would you animate these transitions.

Thank you all in advance.

Welcome to Maplemation~ Kinda expected you do post first in introductions, but oh well. Also this kind of post belongs here: http://maplemation.com/forums/help.66/

I guess I'll go drop some ideas, in addition to the process.
1) You could have 2 Orange dots behind the Yellow Dot, and tween them to the positions of the 2nd block. The Yellow block could follow the path of one of the orange dots, or split if half, and fade away. You could have the Yellow Dot fade away using the alpha tool once you convert it to a symbol. Play around with the easing on the tweens once you've tweened the Orange and Yellow Dots.

2) Uhm...You could have the dots spin and fade away, while making the Red dots fade in. Again, play with the easing on the tweens.
3) Make the Red dots expand until they cover up the dice possibly. Or simply have a red block fade in.
4) Same deal, spin until they completely fade away, or go grab an explosion sprite on top of it.
5) Yeah I got no better ideas aside from alpha and spin tweening.

Hope this sorta helped, if you're new, I suggest taking a look at the 12 principles of animation. No idea if you're planning to touch actual sprites or not, so I'd only suggest looking at only the first 4 videos of Spritefan2's tuts. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWhaHHT7cPlS4eYaQwQJtuipaxY_yrUw

Enjoy your stay, and why not say stuff about yourself here: http://maplemation.com/forums/introductions.6/

Edit: Oh right, you couldn't see the help section since this was your first post. :T Meh, hopefully an admin would move this. Git sniped Kvn huehue

I ended up just making it for you. They can also be made available as SWF, ASE or PNG files. If you want a lower frame rate, just let me know. You can download them at http://sta.sh/2ia2pgc5rnk

Thank you all for the ideas, and also sorry that I didn't post this to the help forum and not posting to introduction beforehand, I'll fix that right away.

@Ainn, may I ask what program did you use to create this animation, or which program would be the best to create such animations?

I really like how to circles turn oval while moving which makes the movement much more dynamic. Is there an exact method to this when they should turn oval and how wide should they get compared to their speed?

Also, do you have any ideas for animating how the 3 dotted block should disappear when it doesn't turn into a completely red block?

Here are my original animations, but they look very lame:
