WIP/Fight scene in the works/I'M A MAGICAL GIRL NOW/Who should even win this crappy fight/I'm sorry this is gonna be so bad/I couldn't pick one title so here have fifty

This should probably be posted in the dumpster, but it is a minute long, and I needed the poll option, so here it is. CnC is welcome, but I'd suggest you follow this! :D Shulkle said I should try a fight scene, and most MBRs are fight scenes, and what's wrong with branching out? So here this goes. But fair warning that it'll probably be awful. And I'm not even sure who should win this attempted fight scene, so you guys can decide that.

To save you some time, here's some problems I'm already aware of (Though do tell me if you think some of these aren't actually problems. Some of them have been pointed out to me, but others are just hunches on my part):

 • There's a bunch of weird, awkward stuff in the transformation sequence. The silhouette part, especially, is abrupt and is the only part of its kind within that sequence, so it seems weird and maybe out of place. Also, the eyes when throwing the soul gem are weird.
 • The transition between songs is weird af. I'm no audio engineer :c... Not sure if I can improve it much more.
 • The soul gem is thrown upwards before my hand should logically release it. But I can't find where exactly the problem lies with this.
 • I wish the SUPER MAGICAL CHANGE OF SETTING had more impact. Any ideas as to how to emphasize that? Or suggestions for a better transition. Right now it's just a fade with some grayscale in between.

Shulkle said I should try a fight scene, and most MBRs are fight scenes,

I um...I was joking....oops

OK, so this is a nice buildup overall, though some small things strike me as odd.
-Kinda expect something lax or comical in terms of music in the beginning. Music sounds like something out of a supermarket over you sitting on a couch reading mememation discord.
-Entrance to Lewis's...realm could have been better. Try doing a little sliding when landing, like .2 of a second moving forward a bit, slowly coning to a stop. Also quicken that fall, since you probably aren't that light.
I dunno what to say about the rigging aside from what you know, and I think camera shake could do something with the impact?

Anyways, there's my thoughts. I'm no SV user, but I know how to throw bitmaps on a canvas and call it an animation. c:

You like integration? HUE

Another SV user(I guess? XD)... mhmmm I'm a hybrid of SV+FL so nice to meet you!
Not bad, your anim can be alot more smoother with more trainings!
Good luck ;)

Sry not gonna CnC since I gt no time ;~;

could do some lens flare to white on the jewel of the wand at the end of that scene

.... yes...
But hey, kim. It's still possible to make a fight scene with SV though but I would like to encourage you to use flash for better quality. Honestly, it's hard to cnc SV anims to me. It's pretty.. basic such as adding sprites in + ease 0 tween + background . Even though it's bad quality.

Anyways,
The first part of the scene (discord), the background music does not suit at all.

@ 0:31 - your back hair is too big.
About that transformation part, your arms are too big. And you should add glow for the whole part of the body including the hair because the glow seems to be under the layer of the head + hair.

Also.. i noticed about your rigging, you've rotated them too much. You should rotate it slightly next time.

Lmaooooooo I'm not changing programs when I'm a minute into a video. No thanks.

With your CnC and Shulkle's CnC, I'm considering changing that music, but I think it's important that the change in songs only occurs between two songs: Main song, magical girl transformation thing, back to the same song. So I think changing that would remove some impact, if that makes sense... More input on that, given this explanation, would be awesome (from both you and Shulkle, as well as anyone else willing).

As for the hair, both the body and the hair are sized at 149:83, and given that their resolution is the same (200x200), that means that they're scaled to each other perfectly.
Later, about the arms, the main part of the body for that part is sized at 149:83. The arms are both sized at 160:90. So mathematically, yeah, they are off. But strangely enough, if I resize the arms to 149:83, they go from this: http://puu.sh/rETUi/dadfd71c8f.jpg to this: http://puu.sh/rETWP/1919c1a714.jpg . And I've tried adding glow to the hair, but because it's so dark, adding a glow effect does literally nothing. There's no visible difference. Were there other body parts that weren't glowing?

And rotated the arms too much, you mean? At what part?

I'm just encouraging/recommending you.

Looks better.

You should try this.
Render that scene > import that "rendered scene" and add glow. I always do when when I used sony vegas. that's how I'm able to do some camera shakes or adding filters.

And rotated the arms too much, you mean? At what part?

your rigging

All.

You think so? O_O You said they were too big before, and adjusting the size just makes them bigger.

Any further thoughts on music?

Yeah. I did said that but you've said..

Which is a bit confusing.

Most of the text is in future tense, implying that more will be added for a fight scene.

I voted for you too though LOL
Also not sure if I'll ever even finish this. Got to the actual fight scene/super unfamiliar territory and got totally lost.

thinking of a fight scene can be hard...
"just a thought"
maybe you should try to think about is what your character can't do here and what their fighting style would be.
Same goes for your opponent, that way you have a better idea of what it is that you want to animate.

Oh cmoonnnn girl, you were once animating in SV too. You know it's more than that xD

Anyway, I really like the rigging, camera work, and VFX you integrated in the transformation sequence Kim...and that's the one thing people tend to underestimate about SV animations - we have a universal advantage in creating cinematic formal elements that are hard to replicate in any Flash animation program. Nicely done there.

In addition to your own self-criticism, I'd like to add that there isn't really any proper character transition between the scene of her yelling then transforming. She should already be in the pose at 0:29 in the previous shot before we cut to the transformation sequence. The eye-line also jumps when you cut from her looking to the right to her transformation facing the left. Be careful when adjusting composition of distorting focus or spacial geography.

Every scene in general, not just fights, should have some sense of setting establishment. We were kind of just thrown into the area where Lewis was after Kim throws a fit in her room. At least have her walk in from a wide master shot or something next time.

Regarding your struggle with the actual fight: a solid fight scene typically requires a lot of planning and pre-visualization before executing. Take some time to storyboard or list the order of skills, combo exchanges, shots, environmental props, etc. before you start animating. Think about the different moments of rising tension and musicality as well.

I highly recommend watching fight scenes and observing other animators' different styles and approaches to action if you're having a hard time coming up with choreography. Even watching action in movies and anime helps. The point is to not imitate, but take note of different dynamics, characterizations, and technical aspects that keep the scene engaging, then attempt to apply them to your own work.

To get started, here's a few different ones that all use Sony Vegas. Yes, SV fight scenes are possible.

Feel free to give Flash a chance too if it really comes down to it. It's pretty hard making the switch after staying on one program for so long, so just be aware of how much time and effort you're willing to put in. Good luck!

Dun break expectations n finish this. It'll either be pretty good and enjoyable or hilariously bad, preferably the latter first.
