Like on how do you guys create one from the start, unless the only way is that you have to save each exploded parts in bannedstory and edit and merge the parts in a program into one for a certain rig

Exploding a character is easier way to start it off.
Example, Rigging a head.

See I have everything saved as an image then put on different layers.
Base head, Hair, eyes whites, eyelids, etc.
Same would go for rigging bodies, just get pieces that you need from banned story or sprite some up.
Also you may have to use other photo editors to rig things like faces. I had to cut the eyes out and recolor somethings.

Lol no, seriously tho.

I know some people who have their character's/characters' parts all 'exploded' like so:

This is really useful if 'cause you never know what you'll use until you actually begin rigging/animating.

That's pretty much it owo" Gotta get your parts and then animate each part. Depending on what you're going for, you probably don't have to go too complex.

Mali's tutorial is pretty useful :D

Something I did, and I'm sure others did as well, was on bannedstory, make your character headless, then clone character states/frames, then explode the layer, then start moving stuff around. Alternatively, you can use a paint program of sorts and manually separate everything.

That's a lot of layers, as expected working with rigs, thanks for the tips!
