MM Halloween Costume Spriting CONTEST!

Halloween is on its way and what's one of the best things about Halloween, besides candy?
Halloween costumes, of course!

Sprite or edit your character/original characters in a Halloween costume! It can be spooky, silly, or even terrifying~ Anyone of any spriting skill level can join! Everyone who submits will be included in a large collage at the end of the event! So give it some action, cool pose, and expression if it fits with your costume! The person with the best costume sprite will be the winner!

- You can submit up to 2 characters (doesn’t have to be in the same post, do not double post please)
- Do not steal from other sprites
- The only non-custom aspects can be the hair and face, in addition to creative edits from pre-made MapleStory sprites (if you do make an edit, please provide the references :D)

- Keep it appropriate (no NSFW)
- When submitting your entry, you must state what the costume is and provide the original sprite (not resized, nothing obstructing your sprite that isn't part of the costume)
- You are allowed to include the Jack-O'-Lantern basket (edited/unedited)! User image

Failure to follow the rules could result in not being included in the collage at the end of the event
(in addition to some public shaming xD)

The following criteria will be evaluated.

- Creativity/Originality
- Overall appearance

- Direct any questions to me or Ta.ki in this thread or in the MM Discord
- If you are unsure about your creative edit, feel free to show your sprite to either me or Ta.ki via PM or Discord DM before submitting! ^^

Hey guys, I don't think it was very clear in the original post, but you must submit your entry HERE IN THIS THREAD. Do not PM me, Ta.ki, or Toukans with sprites (unless you got a question) as a submission, we gon' lose 'em most likely xD

Additionally, I just wanted to clarify what I meant by "creative edits", since there seems to be some confusion.

I made this still-image with edited sprites from BannedStory last year for my Facebook page on Halloween (unfortunately I don't have any of the original sprites OTL). For my pink Crayola/crayon costume, I took the Korean princess 1-piece dress and re-coloured it completely, but I used the outline from one of the poses. For the hat, I took the Peter Pan hat, edited out the feather and re-coloured it. I would consider this a "creative edit," because even though I used the base and outline from a pre-made sprite, I made it into something different/close-to-unrecognizable from the original sprite. If you can pull the wool over everyone's eyes like this, then you're most likely in the clear and successfully made a "creative edit" :3

Then there's Cloudy and Danial with their re-coloured costumes from BannedStory (at the time). Because they're not the original sprites technically and the colours were chosen specifically, this would count as a "creative edit," but it wouldn't be as creative, since all that happened was simple re-colouring. We will still accept these in the final collage, but note that this might dock you spriting work and creative/originality points when it comes to grading.

AND THEN there's Vashie (sorry, bud OTL), whose costume doesn't have any re-colouring and very minimal editing to the clothes and pose. These kinda sprites would not be even judged at all, because it didn't follow the rules.

Depending on how many submissions we get, I will include them regardless in the final collage, but the purpose of this event is to push your boundaries with spriting (considering what happened with BannedStory) and see what you are truly capable of! Remember, you can ask for CnC in the MM Discord or individually with people in MM. From my experience, everyone is very helpful and you're most likely to get a response quickly from the MM Discord.

And being completely honest, c'mon... Who doesn't love Halloween costumes and playing dress-up? :3 Think of it as if you're preparing your real costume, but it's better because you can literally do whatever you want! As long as you follow these guidelines, you should definitely submit something, because everyone gets to be involved in the final collage! Trust me, it'll look SUPER AWESOME with more people ^o^

I had some people ask me if they can just submit for the collage. To clarify, you can submit any sprite with your character/OC all costume'd up and they ALL get considered for judging and go into the collage. Those with fullest customs/most creative edits will be the winners! It's like going to a Halloween costume party and if you try-hard/are super clever with your costume, you'll get uber noticed :3
