What happened to MapleStory?

Hi! I'm new to this forum. I decided to join since I am planning to come back to MapleStory for the Christmas break.
I haven't played in years! I used to play in the 2009-2013 era of MS but I don't remember my account details so I'm starting from scratch!
When I was trying to do some research I was shocked by how much has changed! It seems like MS has declined in popularity a lot so I have a lot of questions I hope you all can help me answer!
Is BasilMarket still the go-to website for MS related content? I've read that they removed the auction system which makes me sad lol
What's a good server that isn't dead to play in and has a good community?
How do people make money in game nowadays? I plan to make an illium!
Any advice you would give for free? xD
Any feedback is appreciated! and I'll be happy to play in-game along with anyone from this forum!

Well, to answer your question, MS is still available on Steam. AND if you go to the official Nexon website, you can get it from there.

I just said it was available on Steam.

I've never personally downloaded MapleStory from Steam before, but the crashing is nothing out of the ordinary. For the most part, it works fine!
If you download MapleStory from the site, you also download this program called Nexon Launcher and it pretty much does nothing as far as I know. LOL If you already have Steam and wanna skip that, then maybe play from Steam. Otherwise, I see no significant difference.

It's so easy to get money starting out. They gift you a pet with the mesos and item pick up magnet, so while you grind/train, your pet can pick aaaaaaall that up. Also the drop rate is crazy, so you don't have to worry about spending mesos on potions and equipment (also there's the Tot's quest that grant you equipment up until lv 60 or 50).

And ayy, if you ever make a character on Reboot, feel free to hit me up. :)

Thank you Tra-La-Tracey! Yeah, I've been grinding and it looks like I'm not going to have to worry about mesos. Just overwhelmed by how many events I could do lol. I'll let you know if I make a character on Reboot!

Most players are probably using Reddit when it comes to trading and general discussion, otherwise, BasilMarket is still a good alternative as a forum. (Heck, even the official MapleStory forums are used.)

In Reboot server, there is no trading so the only way to get mesos is to farm and sell drop items that you don't need.
There's a lot of other methods like using extractions to make the most of the drop items you get or doing daily bosses, but the primary method is to farm.

In regards to which launcher to use, I don't see any differences between the two except the option to use different accounts.

probably got broke from giving free pots too
