Hi everyone! I recently picked up animating again, and I finally managed to make something that isn't a short skill bash. I started this project a bit over a year ago and I started working on it again recently. Although I'm not finished I'd like to share my progress so far. As many can probably tell, I was inspired after stumbling upon Aquila Harukaze and many new animators in the sprite animating scene at the time. I chose to animate Youmu since she was one of my friends favorite characters; however I myself am not too familiar with Touhou so I apologize to all the Touhou fans for not animating Youmu according to her original fighting style / skills. The animation is basically all Maplestory sprites except for Youmu. (Also the voice I used isn't Youmu's, they come from various female voices, I just changed the pitch to match) I hope you don't mind my half-decade outdated resources, cnc and enjoy! (Fighting starts at 0:52)
Same LOL This is awesome! Really liked the character's choreography and camera movements. Can't wait to see more of your content around! :DD
Damn, that's good. only thing i would say is you can increase your camera speed in some parts so the pacing goes better. As it is, the pacing is a bit slow. It's really good, but a bit slow.
I really like how you did the fight scene, but as Jose said, I did get a little bored from the opening scene. You might have to cut or fix the time from 0:03-0:06 since when the camera was panning, the soldiers had already left the view. Also shorten the pan from 0:21-0:25 perhaps to possibly speed things up. Other than some speed and some camera movement problems, I think you did pretty good!
Yeahh, I was actually a bit aware of this, I extended a lot of the parts just to match the music. The song choice might've not been the best ): I'm actually not quite sure how to shorten it without ruining the how it syncs, maybe I could cut the first running part short? I'll have to think about it. Anyways, thanks for the criticism so far!
That was pretty fun to watch! The only criticism I have to offer (that hasn't already been explained by the people above) is that at 1:15, one of the soldiers is spinning for a long time and it looks a little off. Maybe some kind of slow-mo would be good there. Other than that, fantastic job. I enjoyed it a whole lot.
A Somewhat fluid animation overall, please finish this! I will ignore the mistakes that were already pointed out. Spoiler: CnC Uniformity in this section looks baaaad; it's saying that you just copied and pasted. Change up the walkspeed and initial poses. Where did she grab her sword? Both the sheaths are opening up on her left: Her arm is also broken. Try to find a pose for her to grab the sword. Those attacks appears as if they only had a knock back effect, and it didn't really faze them. Changing their poses to the hurt one will look like the attacks had more impact. Also, add movement to the dust cloud.
Damnit, you got me LOL. I couldn't find a "standing while unsheathing her sword" pose to fit the needs of that part actually, so I attempted to ghetto it. I'm planning to use my bad spriting skills to create a pose for that eventually, but for now please bear with her invisible sheath and broken arm (: As for everything else, I'll fix as soon as possible! Thanks, I really appreciate the cnc (and even going as far as taking your time to screenshot and explain each part).
pretty cool love your action scenes n camera movement some scenes just paused for to long but other then that very impressive great job
Straight up CnC **BTW this should be in the dumpster thread since it's a W.I.P** 0:03 - 0:07 ; There was a random pause, I'm guessing to sync the song to the actual animation but it's was unnecessary. The Touhou sprite @ 0:10 is skewed waaaay too much for a 2D character. The camera movement after the wind burst were really awkward. The soldiers didn't even recoil from the burst which is really bad. The random pans to the soldiers is really unnecessary due to the fact they're just 4-8 alert poses (Unless you can make them move their spear somehow it would fit) There are some SFX that are louder than others, look into that next time Overall, It's decent but it's slow at the same time. Work on your phase and you can make animations great again!
Hey! I really enjoyed it once you started getting into the fight. I really liked how creative you got with the poses, really reminds me of how I started thinking outside the box with these things. If anything I'd also say that you could calm down with the intensity of the squash and stretch, it gets a little overboard at some stages. Keep it up!
Thanks for the criticism! Yeah, I realize a lot of my problems came from the camera movements and the cinematographic part of my animation. I think that this is one of my weak points as I always tend to get too caught up in choreographing the fighting and combos and end up half-assing everything else. As I realize that this is an inappropriate place to fan boy, I'll contain myself. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for pointing out the bounce and stretch thing; I've recently realized that it's been a bad habit of mine to over-skew my sprites in an attempt to make things look smoother. Will keep that in mind as I keep working on this!
