My notes: I feel as if I could have done so much more then what I had. But with me coming back and having to recover this animation twice I feel as if I did good.

    I don't know.
Wow, just Wow. To point out every little thing about either animation would take SO LONG, i mean it would be mostly mexo's crap. I'm just gonna say 3 things wrong with each animation.
    Trystin-
-Your hits had little impact if a character is moving incredibly fast along the screen don't have it take one frame, have them take 2 or 3 frames per dash across the screen, along with squishing them
-Your hits had fairly little impact, and all felt a little mushy
-your gravity is a bit floaty
Mexo- HOH BOY WHERE DO I BEGIN
-Your sprites were very poorly aligned
    -your maps were broken
-you used MapleStory maps with momodora: reverie under the moonlight sprites, thus giving the whole thing an inconsistent feel
-you had no hitstun or hitlag
-you didn't give enough time to read the lines of text, although this could be just because I'm illiterate as fuck.
-you don't give either character and introduction
-the whole story feel is overshadowed by poor execution of your text boxes

I'm gonna stop before I need a Redbull to finish this crap, anyways I'm voting for Trystin he had significantly better animation.

Y'know, you could have just went on your day, casually commenting some critique and move on instead of calling other peoples' work "crap". Even remarks like "I didn't like it" or "This animation felt mediocre" would have been better. I mean, cmon, really?

Anyways, yeah this seems quite rushed. I honestly think it could have been a better MBR had the due date not been crammed into 2 days. With maybe 2-3 more days of refinement, I think both animations would benefit from a high time date.

    Trystin:
I remember clearly stating in your previous animations that a filtered text would probably look more eye-catching and appealing than just a slab of text with no filter, and I'm glad you actually put a drop shadow to it. I also liked how you tried to make an aerial combo and try implementing hitstun, all the while maintaining pretty decent pacing. Although, I feel like your camming and execution could be better.
For the camming, you had the right idea. Trying to eliminate empty space and also make impacts per hit. However, a problem I notice is how still the cam is after the camera shake. For instance, at the 0:16 combo string, after the first 2 hits, there was a lot of empty space in the right side. What I probably would have done is do vertical camera shake, and have it slowly tween to the left. The same applies in 0:21, where there's a whole lot of empty space on the left.
As for execution-wise, as Wolferian said, it'd look a lot better with anticipation frames, or not instantly dashing a character in through 1 frame. I think at least 2-3 frames would have been better. Personally, I think the hitstuns ruined the flow a bit, where they lasted a bit too long, and also made the movements a little stiff, but that may just be me.
Double check your sound quality, they sound as crusty as the SfxT hit sounds without any whooshes.
Honestly, I thought it looked ok. I just kind of wish there was more, it getting pretty good. Just tone down on those spontaneous dashes, yeah?

    Mexo:
Farrrrrrrrrr too much build up, and when the action starts, it just ends with even more build up. There was hardly any real movement either aside from a looping sequence, and the other one standing completely still. Still camera, barely any movement aside from sprites, it dragged. Remember, you can align symbols with the alignment tool, and make sure it's all aligned on a guideline. To be honest, the ideas were there but just ruined through continuous dialogue, like watching a Hyorinjuitsu animation, except quadruple the number of times the animation just stops to talk. That needs a lot of fine tuning, It's possible to find a middle ground, I mean, I liked Hyorin's Maple anims, and they paused quite a number of times in pacing, so it's possible to find a middle ground.
Now for the actual combat, well. You looped the same lightning attack over and over, and varying the attacks up would have been better. Remember to align the map, because having small gaps like that really hurts the overall quality, Double check your export settings, and make sure the sounds are exported at the best quality possible. The camera was far too still with the same wideshot. That's about it. A lot of what I said back in our DMs fits what's said here. Just keep that in mind, and double check your alignments and all that.

I'm voting for Trystin for an overall more appealing animation and just more entertaining animation. I still feel like both animations could have looked even better with more time and refinement, but hey, and MBR is an MBR.

So for the last MBR (I hope so) for Trystin and Mexo, we will start by saying all of the rights done with both animations.

    Mexo

You gained a + from long animation...
You gained a + for something backing up the fight...
    .....that's it...

    Trystin

    Good combo strings
    Nice pacing from my perspective
A good background even from what we can see.
A good V-cam that keeps a good speed so far and consistent movement or so.

    Now....the bad part.....

    Trystin

Some parts were a bit janky like the characters were a bit floaty.
The V-cam is good, but some parts were a bit off to me but still good.
Your part is a bit short, but I'll give it to you about the Quality over Quantity.

    Mexo

    - Long pauses
    - Quantity over Quality isn't always good, indeed this is one of them...
    - (Opinion) Hey, I honestly got bored halfway through and I lost interest. You lost the viewer halfway through and that's a no buddy...
    - The Battle itself was rather short in cases and uninterested change that...
    - (Opinion) The boss fight that you did near the end, wasn't really adapted well from the original game to animation. I've heard that you've played the Momodora, and this isn't much help as to see it wasn't adapted well.
    - Proper Aligning over the sprites weren't used correctly. And was a lot Janky and made it look really weird.
    - Some of the backgrounds weren't put together correctly and looked off-putting in some instances

    ======================================================

All in all, I'm giving my vote to Trystin proving to me that sometimes it's quality over quantity. Mexo you have a long ways to go and Trystin keep improving too and soon you'll be on your way.

This opinion is not biased, it's just what I honestly think.

My vote goes out to Trystin for winning this MBR.
**Had to delete my old one due to messing up badly**

    Trystin
    - The animation felt rushed at the end there
    - Colors you used for text is an eyesore with the background (Maybe that's just me¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
    [IMG][IMG]

    Mexo
    - Delayed sound effects
    - The map doesn't really fit well with the sprites you were using
    - It was more of you telling a story rather than just creating a "simple fight" animation
    - The way you tried adding a lot more of the dialogue made me lose interest in watching as I had to skim through some of the video to get to the fight scene
    - The sound effects were either too soft or too loud
    - At the final stage of the boss, the maps weren't align well, as you can see some of the white parts (I can't really describe it well)
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

But even still, you're improving little by little, so practice even more! But even still, I do have to give you credit for making an almost 4 minute animation, even if the animation is mainly dialogue.

I am not trying to discourage you to "quit" animation, I really would love to see you improve in the future. I do want to give you a bit of friendly advice, which is to get someone to help you see some mistakes you normally wouldn't see. It's always good to have a fresh pair of eyes.

Trystin, you're improving a lot more. I would love to see you reach more of a higher animation goal. I can't wait to see more of your animations in the near future.

    I have to admit
trystin's anim was okay, short and simple. ~~too lazy to cnc but follow their gr8 cnc~~

but for mexo, your dialogue is too boring and long :l . to make it interesting, you should zoom in to a speaking character.

yea im gonna have to vote for trystin
his animation had the most battle animation theme in it compared to mexo
and im sorry mexo but if you wanna make an animation full of text try to spice it up a bit with different camera angles so the viewers don't get bored and skip around the video
also if you are gonna build something off make sure the pay off is worth it ( can't lie i do the same thing sometimes lol) like aim for a good balance of build up and pay off 50/50

goodluck boys on your next mbrs
