Hi,

Yesterday @Ainn created this animation for me:

I'm completely new to animation and I'd like to know if there is a tutorial on creating such animations where simple objects move and transform into each other, and how can you make it look dynamic.

In @Ainn's animation the circles go oval and first they move fast then they slow down. How can you tell how wide the oval state should be and how fast should the circles move to make it look the best?

Is it just coming from experience or there is an exact method to this?

I would also be interested in tutorials where they show you how to slice a simple one colored object in two or anything where such simple objects are manipulated through animation.

Thanks.

i'd say there's no one right way of doing these kinds of things, it's up to you to decide what looks best (a r t)

but the general principle of moving fast and then slowing down or vise versa is called easing

you can play with easing in flash and/or after effects to get a feel for how it works/the way you like it

I find that motion graphics like that are waaaay easier to make and polish in After Effects rather than flash.

Here's something:

I would say it comes from both, experience and methods. I will try to explain what i think he did with simple words:

1. First thing you can see it's that on 60 fps, so it's going to be super smooth no matter what, later, you can make them smoother by adding ease in or ease out; in other words; they can start moving slowly and then speed up or vice versa.

2. This split effect you're talking about, It's acually 2 yellow circles stacked together, one he streched it to the right, and the other to the left, when they were far enough he gave them their original proportions and made them orange.

3. For the 3 circles, he just moved the two orange down and made the third one appear from a fade/opacity transition (basic stuff, you'll get it)

4. A red square appears from the back while the 3 circles become smaller until it covers the whole screen.

5. He gave another simple transition to the red square, basically you grab the top of the image and move it to the center...

I also found this tutorial that seems to be about what you specifically want to know about, I haven't checked it yet but it has a lot of likes

If I were you, before getting into tutorials I would look for a basic AE course in the city; because at times and this is what happened to me when I was getting into it, the program can get a bit messy, complicated and confusing. It's better to have someone who knows about it so he/she can explain to you whats going on and while you're at it, learn some adobe illustrator as well.

Regards.

boi if you start posting motion graphics here...
